This is a debut novel that is captivating, creepy, and bone chilling.
Stay-at-home mom Suzette has her hands full trying to connect with her daughter, Hanna.
Hanna is seven years old and she cannot, or will not speak. On top of that, Suzette can’t shake the feeling that Hanna, her own daughter, actually despises her.
Suzette’s ex-husband, Alex, wants to believe her versions of Hanna’s unusual behavior, but he has never seen it firsthand. Hanna displays only love and affection for him and that drives Suzette crazy. Maybe Hanna is just a typical, young girl, but it seems that she loves her Daddy, Alex and hates her Mommy, Suzette.
This is a tale that unfolds in alternating chapters from the perspectives of Hanna and Suzette. Suzette’s chapters convey her fear, anger, frustration, and desperation. Hanna’s chapters show her perspective and desire to ‘fix’ things. She sees Suzette as the only thing standing in the way of complete devotion of her father, Alex, and she plots ways to step up her game against Mommy.
If you are into chilling, psychological thrillers about evil, creepy children, this is the novel for you.
