In a world where a virus has mutated humanity, everything east of the Mississippi River is called the Feral Zone and is off limits. Young Lane McEvoy is tempted to see what is over the wall blocking the East from her, but knows that going over is a death sentence, not only because of the mutated people but because the punishment is death.
