Welcome!

Saturn Booksellers, Gaylord's hometown bookstore right in the heart of the Alpine Village, is a general, independent shop for readers of all ages. An eclectic atmosphere (think chalkboard walls and a coffee shop in a log cabin built right into the store...), a friendly, knowledgeable staff composed of true bibliophiles, a wide selection of books and related goodies, a full calendar of events, free wi-fi and a real sense of fun make Saturn Booksellers a destination for locals and tourists alike.

The bookstore was named the Michigan Retailer of the Year! The award is given annually by the Michigan Press Assn. and the Michigan Retailers' Assn. and is based primarily on community involvement. Congratulations to all of our awesome booksellers!

On behalf of my staff and myself, welcome to our 'virtual store.' We hope you enjoy shopping Gaylord's hometown bookstore 24/7. As always, your loyalty is invaluable to us! Jill Miner, owner

Wed, 08/04/2010 - 8:30pm

Back in the spring when we had our 'Live From New York' event, our staffer Maggie just raved to everyone about an upcoming new book for teens, Before I Fall by first-time author Lauren Oliver.  Lots of the adults in the audience were impressed enough by Maggie's description of a girl who relives the day of her death over and over that our first shipment was sold out! It wasn't long before the book hit the NYT Bestseller list, and it's been there for weeks!

We are delighted to present Lauren to fans young and old:  sign up and come as a mother/daughter,  grandmother/granddaughter, or girlfriend/girlfriend duo and you will have the chance to EACH win a luxurious, pampering spa service from our friends at Kneaded Relief!

Free ticket required - come in for yours today, or reserve one here on our website by clicking the ticket button below!

Last summer thriller author extraordinaire Karin Slaughter thrilled a packed house at Saturn when she came to read from and sign Undone. Fans of Dr. Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver’s Grant County Police force came from as far as three hours away to meet the tiny woman who could deliver such huge thrills. And these same fans and the new ones she made that night won’t be disappointed as the stories continue in Broken.

Sara is back in Grant County for Thanksgiving, not sure she can make it through the holiday in the town where her husband Jeffrey was murdered. But it isn’t long before her thoughts are diverted by another murder – that of a young college coed by the lakeside. When the prime suspect confesses and then kills himself in jail, Sara comes face to face with Lena Adams, the detective she blames for Jeffrey’s death – and immediately Sara suspects Lena of deception here, too.

Full of Slaughter’s trademark mix of gore, empathy and occasional flashes of humor, Broken is another winner from the queen of crime fiction.

Here's what some of our favorite authors say about Saturn...

Saturn Booksellers rocks like a good indie should!! It’s one of my favorite bookstores in all the world, and if I lived closer, I’d have to apply for a job just so I could hang out with Jill and the whole crew! Saturn book events are the BEST, so if you haven’t been to one yet, what are you waiting for!?!? – Claire Cook, bestselling author of six novels, including Must Love Dogs and The Wildwater Walking Club

Authors know they would be nowhere without good indie bookstores, and Saturn ranks at the top of the list. Every event we have done there has been a huge success, and the folks there could run a seminar on how to do things right. Every savvy author has Saturn in their orbit! -- P.J. Parrish, New York Times bestselling author of the Louis Kincaid series.

"Saturn Booksellers is like a second home to book lovers! The booksellers are like one big family in love with reading and they share that love with their customers. Such a treat to be there." Kristina Riggle, author of Real Life and Liars

authorquote1.jpg  "Jill and the fabulous booksellers at Saturn are what real bookselling is all about.  They care.  They are professionals.  They are a LOT of fun and they understand the importance of the written word and making certain a really good book gets into as many hands as possible. Saturn is a slice of heaven and they have a spot at the top of my writer's heart." - Kris Radish, author of Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral

"Saturn put me over the moon! I mean, I've never had a SRO crowd come in full-on Apocalypse Now camouflage and chant my name! Jill, her staff and patrons are truly amazing, and are now officially family members in the Rouse House!" - Wade Rouse, author of  At Least in the City Someone Would Hear Me Scream

"As a writer, I've never been to a book store more supportive and welcoming than Saturn Books.  For a reader, Saturn is a mecca of knowledge and personal experience with each book.  No uninvolved staff at Saturn.  A reader and writer's dream place." - Elizabeth Buzzelli, author of Dead Floating Lovers and Dead Dancing Women

authorquote2.jpg  "Saturn is the kind of bookstore authors dream about. Events there are always packed, fun, and a rowdy good time! The passionate booksellers have never once steered me wrong  with a reading suggestion--and have led me to some of my very  favorite books of recent years. It's my favorite bookstore on the planet!" - Katrina Kittle, author of The Kindness of Strangers.

"Saturn Booksellers is the kind of store readers dream of walking into: great books, smart service, and an amazingly creative approach to author events. Jill Miner and crew run a great place, and every author I know wants to visit. Thank you for supporting Horse Soldiers and In Harm's Way. I can't wait to come back!" Doug Stanton
